Music Library Parsing: Just uploaded all my music onto a single library on my iMac and then duplicated the folder on an external Drive. Goal is to Select specific songs/albums from this Library to customize the Libraries on each of my other devices (phone, pad, etc). What is the Process I should use?

So: what I'm going to do is copy the iTunes folder from my mac to an external drive. Open Music on my MacBook Pro using the iTunes folder on the External Drive. Then Plug my iPhone into the Pro and sync only Selected artists, genres, etc to my phone to keep the Giga-Bytes under control and off the cloud.
One customized library per device, all sub folders.

I don't understand. The composite Library is too large for my mobile devices. What Steps do I take to customize a library and upload the result onto an ipad or iphone?
