I need help forwarding my text messages from my iPhone 12 to my iPad Air.

If you don't, Go to Settings > Messages, turn off iMessage, turn it back on, tap Send & Receive, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage, then sign in with the same Apple ID used on your other devices.
You should see this setting:
I tried following that. There is no option for forwarding text messages.
It's at Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding on your phone
Make sure both devices are signed into the same Apple ID.
