I attempted to update my 2019 Mac Air with 8MB Ram to the Big Sur OS for the security patch, but was not able to. The message I received indicated that i did not have enough memory. Not sure how that is possible and I am looking for a solution or options.
I suspect that the issue was storage rather than memory. See the following from How to upgrade to macOS Big Sur - Apple Support
If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac needs 35.5GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac needs up to 44.5GB of available storage. To upgrade from OS X Mountain Lion, first upgrade to OS X El Capitan, then upgrade to macOS Big Sur.
