Is there a way to transfer my files from the Files App to my Mac using a tethered USB connection? These files are located on the iPhone only and not on iCloud.

I don't think there's a way to use a USB connection to transfer files from your iPhone to your Mac, but you can use AirDrop to send large amounts of files from one device to another.
Make sure that AirDrop receiving is turned on on your Mac, then select the folder on your iPhone you'd like to transfer to your Mac. Long-press on the folder, press share, then select your Mac.

Thank you for your response and help. I did ultimately use airdrop for the transfer. Still seems like a huge oversight and inconvenience for consumers though. Once again thanks!
