Old iMac help

I have an old iMac (Ancient.... 20 inch, Mid 2007) handed down to me.

It's so slow and now that I have a job that requires me to work remotely at home some days, it freezes or stops or just gives up on me.

I in no way can afford a new MAC.

I use mine mainly for recording Voice Over auditions, but anything else I try it just says FU!

iMac, OS X 10.11

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

I believe we need to proceed with an EtreCheck report. EtreCheck is a useful App to diagnose and identify issues, both hardware and software. It is trusted by many users. Please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Navigate to: https://etrecheck.com and get the free version of EtreCheckPro.
  2. Download it. It is a free and trusted app. It is often recommended here on Apple Support Communities.
  3. Open EtreCheck, and before running the report, be sure to check “Allow full Drive Access” at the bottom of the EtreCheckPro window.
  4. Run the report, and put it in a post, as seen here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000211. We will then examine the report for issues in your Mac.

If you cannot afford a new iMac perhaps a Mac mini is right for you, for about $1000 you could have a very nice Mac. You can even finance it with no interest from Apple for 1 year. Other options are to buy a refurbished Mac from Apple, www.apple.com and navigate to the bottom and search the refurbished section. Just don't buy with 16GB of RAM or more and the largest SSD you can afford. If new or refurbished are too much navigate to Macsales.com and buy a used Mac from a reputable reseller.

Attempting to resurrect a 2007 is like try to commute 100 miles per day in a model T. You can do it but it sure isn't a pleasant experience.
