my Icloud space on my macbook pro is taking up half of my storage space if i upgrade to another plan will that problem be resolved

The I Cloud is taking up almost half of my space and I either need to clear it out or should I upgrade to more space - I have a Total space of 1 T and it is full

You need to get more iCloud space since it is full. Also go to System Preferences/iCloud (Apple ID for Catalina or later)/iCloud Drive and click Options. Then check Optimize Mac Storage.
