Can I return my old (2012) 27” iMac in the package that my new 27”iMac arrived in?

Yes, you can return the old in the same package that the new came in.
But if you have arranged to return the old for trade-in credit, then you should be receiving a shipping box shortly, complete with prepaid shipping label.
