The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission. Running Big Sur on a Mac desktop pc. Trying to change permissions on an external drive so that I can download my Aperture Library from Lightroom

Is the drive being used by Time Machine (or at least Big Sur thinks so)? Under Big Sur, you cannot alter a Time Machine backup drive.

If not, how is the drive formatted? On its own, macOS cannot write to an NTFS drive.

Thank you. Yes it was that simple and I was overcomplicating. Changer to ExFAT and what do you know?
