Apple Maps disappeared from home page, can't seem to restore it

For some reason, the maps app disappeared from my iphone 8 plus. Tried restoring from the App store but all it does is "open" the app. It does not restore it on the home page. I do not see an icloud download icon to restore it from the App store. I want to see the app on my home page. Thanks for any help.
