icloud next to folders? Why and How

How do stop all my folders on desktop going to icloud? Is it a good idea to stop folders going to icloud? and how did I cause this?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.6

Disable iCloud Drive, on the Mac:

  1. Go to: System Preferences
  2. Click: Apple ID (Top Item)
  3. Uncheck: iCloud Drive


Having a check next to it, iCloud Drive is syncing particular data.
