Hi, I would like to save a file on my Desktop on my laptop hard drive and not on my iCloud. Can I do that?
Also say if I create a new file/document, how do I know if it is being saved on iCloud or just on my laptop hard drive? Thanks.

Files are synced in iCloud if you save them to iCloud Drive. Or, if you have desktop and documents enabled, the file will also sync to the cloud if it is on your desktop or in your documents folder. You can see the cloud status of your files in finder.
