This has been an ongoing issue for the last couple months it was doing it a while back and then all of a sudden it started working again and now it is unresponsive for the last week. The first time I took it to the Apple store I did it already started working at that point. Very frustrating! Feel like I’m getting the runaround when I call I need to have a lot of time to address this issue.

I assume you have Raise to Wake turned on otherwise you would not be able to use it at all.

First try a Forced restart (May or may not work with the dodgy power button)
