will my current phones which are Iphone 8 &7 work when we switch to 5g

iPhone 7, iOS 15

No, because they do not have the appropriate hardware to support 5G networks.

Only iPhone models 12 or 13 have that feature.

The vast majority of carriers keep their 4G network service, while offering 5G.

Contact your cellular carrier and ask them.
