Go Apple-for-Apple:
Use the Apple brand USB-C to USB Adapter on your Mac, for reliability and dependability.. Doing so, know that all items are intended to work together. Any other hub may not work, being it may need extra power.
Depends on which adapter. Santechi has indicated that some of their adapters did not work with SuperDrive, though some of their newer adapters do mention SuperDrive compatibility. The Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter is known to work.
Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter, available in the Apple online store and (probably) most Apple Stores.
Thanks
i bought a Satachi usb hub recommended by Apple but it doesn’t work. Maybe a direct connection as you suggest
