One iPhone cannot call the other

My son and I both have phone X on the same account. Lately I can text him but I cannot call him. It goes straight to his voicemail, which has not been set up. He can call me. He does not have me blocked or anything odd in his settings. We can’t figure out what to do.

Cannot call my child’s phone I recently got my 13 year old twins iPhones. The set up appears to be the same but I cannot call one of my daughter’s phones. I am set up as her emergency contact and one of her downtime contacts. I have confirmed all of her settings and my number is not blocked on her phone but I get the message “The person you are calling cannot accept calls at this time.” Please help!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

You cannot both be signed in to the same Apple ID. See: Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support.
