Clicking an app in the dock

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

By the way, you can quickly show the main Music window by pressing Command-0 (that is a zero, not the letter Oh).

Also: do you close the Music window before quitting Music? If you do that, try just using Command-Q or choosing Quit from the Music menu.

What I think is happening is that the application does start but has no window open.

You can check if that is the case simply by looking at the menu bar. Do you see "Music" as the application name, right next to the Apple symbol at the top left? If you do, then Music has indeed started.
