Clicking an app in the dock

When I click on an some apps (notes and music) in the dock once, the dot appears below the icon indicating it has been opened, however I have to click it again for it to open up on the desktop. This is intermittent with notes and consistent with music. Is there a setting to fix this?

You can try a safeboot to clear system cache files as a trouble shoot procedure—then try again a normal boot to test

Try a SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

Yes, it says music next to the Apple logo. So how do I fix it so that a window is open? I’ll try the other posters suggestion regarding cache.

Yes, do try that.

By the way, you can quickly show the main Music window by pressing Command-0 (that is a zero, not the letter Oh).

Also: do you close the Music window before quitting Music? If you do that, try just using Command-Q or choosing Quit from the Music menu.
