Recover photos from broken iPhone 11Pro

The photos taken before the phone broke are not visible in Photos. I typically set devices to back-up to iCloud automatically so I was surprised the vacation photos taken a few days before are not showing up

First of all, it’s not clear an iCloud backup had been performed between the time the photos were taken and the time of the catastrophe. Typically an iCloud backup occurs at night when the iPhone is plugged in to power and on Wi-Fi.

Secondly, it’s not clear your photos would be saved in a backup as explained here.
