Black screen of death

I have a iPod 5th generation. When I plug it up it will go to the charging screen but then it goes to black screen with the Apple logo. I have tried charging it for a couple hours and also pressing the home and power button but nothing happens. I am unable to get into it and it’s very frustrating! Any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated!
