EarPods with Lightning Connector can play lossless audio. Inside the Lightning plug there's a DAC which converts the digital signal to analogue used by the EarPods.

The lossless capability is limited to 24-bit/48 kHz resolution, though. In order to get hi-res lossless an external DAC is required.
