Mac OS forgets display arrangement after sleep

Hi there,

My MacBook Pro 14" is basically always plugged into a Belkin thunderbolt dock with two 4k displays attached. However for whatever reason it doesn't seem to be able to remember the arrangement of the displays after going into sleep. Every time I wake the system up one of two things happens.

1.

My displays both wake but are the wrong away around. My primary display is normally my right display. After sleep my left display becomes the primary and also thinks it's the right display until I manually rearrange them in system preferences.

2.

Only my left display wakes up and forgets all scaling, variable refresh rate and resolution settings. I simply cannot get the second screen to wake up unless I unplug the thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.

As I'm sure you can imagine, this is really annoying and I'd love to see it fixed!

Thanks,

Ben

ben269,

If you feel that is the case and want to just report it, you can do so through the feedback page. Make sure to set Feedback Type as 'Bug Report': Product Feedback - Apple

If you want to continue troubleshooting, try starting the Mac in safe mode and testing the preference settings. This will prevent other types of software from interfering with the settings to test: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

As a last step, you can reinstall macOS which will reinstall System Preferences and refresh the settings: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support
