Loss of Touch ID capability

Running macOS Monterey V 12.5.1. Chipset: Apple M1.


Touch ID no longer is an option in system preferences but was operable until today.

iMac 24″, macOS 12.5

if this is your iMac and an external keyboard—


iMac external keyboard…

try switching off the keyboard for 30 secs or so and then hard connecting the keyboard via lightning cable and then switching on the keyboard and see if it resolves the touch id icon/options reappearing in system preferences.
