Apple ID in the preferences freezes

Hi. So i forgot my apple ID password and decided to change it. I changed it successfully, but at the very end when it said 'Your password has been changed' I pressed 'Okay' and it froze. The loading icon is still spinning after hours. I can't quit system preferences or force quit it. I can't even reset my computer because it's on. What do I do?

Press Command-Option-escape, select System Preferences and click Force Quit.

If that fails, you may have to force shutdown your mac by pressing and holding the power key until it shuts down.
