Excel in iOS loses data

I see I’m not the first person to suffer this loss, but I won’t be trusting the app again as it just lost 4 days worth of data and notes I was recording. No trace of it anywhere. Have checked Files app, iCloud and on the two devices I was using it (iPhone 12 Pro & iPad Pro 1st gen). Auto-save is on in both devices and there is no history. Always loved Excel, was even willing to pay for it, but this may well drive me back to Sheets.
