Will a SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD - Up to 1050MB/s - USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 - External Solid State Drive - SDSSDE61-1T00-G25 be suitable to back up my late 2009 iMac with 2.0 USB ports?

I want to back up my late 2009 iMac running High Sierra in preparation to replacing it with a 16" Macbook Pro. My iMac has 4 USB 2.0 ports. My question is will SanDisk 1 TB Extreme Portable SSD - Up to 1050MB/s - USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 - External Solid State Drive - SDSSDE61-1T00-G25 be suitable for this task? If not what should I use?

It will work, however 2 things:

Using a SSD to backup is like using a Ferrari to get the groceries 2 blocks away, way overkill.
1 TB is kind of small capacity if you intend to use the SSD as a Time Machine backup .

You will only get 2.0 speeds which will be SLOW so also please be aware of that too!

I'd recommend a OWC Mercury Elite Pro, if you intend to use it for Time Machine it should be 2-3 times the capacity of what is currently stored on the old Mac.

I appreciate your comments. If I understand correctly I don’t need the speed of a solid state drive but could use more than 1TB capacity. Can you suggest more appropriate external storage?
