Why Does The Spotlight Index Continually Get Corrupted On An External Drive Array?
There seems to be an issue with Spotlight Indexing on external drives and getting corrupted.
Specifically in my case I have a RAID Array using SoftRAID from OWC.
I have followed THIS article which was helpful with the response from @BDAqua
I have also performed the Apple support recommended steps in THIS article.
NOTE: The Apple Support article required that I perform a "Repair" via Disk Utility before I could successfully Add/Remove the array from the Privacy list as it gave me an "unknown error" message when trying to add the array to the list.
Unfortunately after doing all of this multiple times, Spotlight Indexing seems to be getting corrupted and therefore searches do not produce and results from this drive array.
Something I have noticed is that mds_stores process consistently runs at 100% on 2 CPUs for more than 10 minutes at startup.
Also of note is that I use Final Cut Pro consistently and have found that this array will not "Unmount" after a full day of use and causes a "shutdown_stall" as evidenced by the generated log file in /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.
On several occasions this has caused a system panic on shutdown where the machine will reboot back to the login screen. I already have a support ticket in for this issue.
Would like to know if anyone has found a permanent fix or if I need to just wait for Ventura.
Thanks in advance.
