If you continue to experience difficulties, deleting and re-adding your email account may be the easiest method to restore normal send/receiving of email. You should note that deleting the email account will also remove locally stored copies of your email; assuming that your email provider uses IMAP, re-adding your email will also restore all email messages to your device.


To delete your email account from iPad settings:

Settings > Mail > [Your email account] > Delete Account


To re-add your email account:

Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
