How do I know if my gen1 pencil is actually charging?

While charging Pencil from iPad, go to Settings > Apple Pencil ... you can check, and see % at the top of screen.

Seems if you charge in any other way, you can not check if it is charging.

check the Today View on your iPad. Just swipe from left to right on the Home screen or Lock screen.
