forgot passcode for unsupported iPad

I have an old iPad from from 2012 that I no longer use as it is obsolete. I would like to dispose of it but cannot remember my passcode so cannot erase its contents. I have not tried connecting it to my MacBook as I'm guessing it will not work due to the ancient software on the old iPad.

Is there anything I can do?

You can turn it in to Apple for recycling. That may be a more secure way to recycle. To check this out, tap here then scroll down to Just trading in? Get an Apple Gift Card. They provide a link to see if your iPad is eligible.
