Why is USB super Drive not being recognized by Mac?

That device requires 900 milliamps USB power. the typical USB port supplies 500.
Users have FAR better luck with ports directly on the chassis that with ports on a Hub.
menu > about this Mac > (system Report) > USB ...
...will show you the power requested and available on every USB.

Your Mac would happen to have a builtin DVD drive, would it? If so, then it will not be seen.
