Issues checking my iPhone's warranty coverage

Hi,

I recently bought iphone 14pro from the private seller, phone was sealed and looked brand new, I checked imei and serial all looks legit, even when I check through settings>about>it says limited warranty one year from now (-1 day), also when i login into mysupport.apple.com i see green check marks next to valid purchase date, tel tech support and repairs and service coverage, however if I try to check serial using https://checkcoverage.apple.com/

it says: Please activate your device

We’re unable to display coverage details because your device hasn’t been registered.

what does this mean? Could you please suggest what I should do?

Thank you!

Discount? No I didn’t get it for any discount, I paid a bit more than what it costs.

Phone can be checked on https://checkcoverage.apple.com/ now, I guess it takes time, it took a fee hours for it to appear activated and registered on the website.

Why is it stolen? As I mentioned phone was sealed, I picked it up in person, I have all information about the seller, including ID, phone, address, bank account number (I wired the money). It is stolen because I bought it from the private seller?

Just in case if someone will need this information in the future, device might not appear registered immediately on the check coverage website.

The fact that you didn't get a discount is a good sign. Just because it was still sealed doesn't mean that it wasn't stolen... As in plucked by a porch pirate from the front stoop of some poor sod who wasn't home when it was delivered... happens all the time.

Hopefully you won't have to use the info you have on the seller to file a police report if it does turn out to be stolen.

It’s may not be stolen if it appeared on the warranty check, but it still could be. But how it can be stolen and still be sealed:

  • Someone orders an iPhone to be delivered
  • It is left on their doorstep by FedEx, UPS, etc
  • A thief is watching the delivery, goes to the door and takes it
  • They now have a new, sealed iPhone
  • As it was reported delivered to Apple, they automatically activate the warranty for the intended recipient
  • The thief either sells it to you, or sells it to the person who sold it to you.

This actually happens many times a day.

Unfortunately, that's no guarantee. Apple does to track stolen devices.

If it was stolen from someone's front porch, for example, and the legitimate owner reports it to their carrier, it may end up blacklisted and unusable.

If you got a significant discount from the retail price, something is very wrong... The 14 Pro is in short supply, any discounted devices, especially heavily discounted devices stand a very good chance of being stolen.

Hmm…i actually bought 13 pro directly from apple.com, UPS delivered it when no one was home, they came back next day as they require signature.

Sometimes UPS/FedEx/DHL will do that, but not always. They are supposed to, but drivers are in a hurry because their raises are based on how many deliveries they make out of their schedule.

I ordered a few things directly from apple.com they always require signature to leave the parcel.

The guy I bought this Iphone from had multiple Iphones for sale, and he wasn’t really in rush to sell, as he is selling over msrp.

I can probably call Apple and find out more, but I’m sure it’s all good, otherwise it would have been blacklisted or reported.

Seller can be a thief or a saint, innocent until proven guilty :)

Frankly, even when I get $10 parcel from oldnavy via lasership/ups/fed ex

I can’t remember single occasion when they left package without the signature. Once fedex left the package with my neighbor but they still asked for her signature.

If someone steals iphone, probably owner of that iphone will report to apple and delivery company, in that case apple/carriers will black list the phone, I guess if tracking says it was delivered and in reality it was stolen owner of the phone will be extra motivated to at least have phone blacklisted asap.
