Apple Watch won’t update/pair

I was gifted an old Apple Watch and when I try to pair it with my phone if says I need to update the watch but when it looks for updates it says my phone needs to be updated first even though my phone is updated. What should I do?

I appreciate you trying but none of that worked. I can’t get past the screen shot above on the watch app and all the watch says is “finish set up on iPhone” but I don’t have a software update to do on my iPhone it’s all up to date. And restarted both devices didn’t change anything.

i know someone who has paired a series 1 to iphone 13 and many others struggling to pair series 3's

The key, because of low memory is to erase entirely the watch

See if you can find Settings on the watch and in General, reset erase all content and settings.

Try these steps:

1. Make sure that your Apple Watch is correctly connected to the charger

If your Apple Watch won't charge or won't turn on – Apple Support (UK)

2. Restart your Apple Watch  Click here >   Restart your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

3. Restart the paired iphone Click here >    Restart your iPhone – Apple Support (UK)

4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

If the update still won't start:

1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

2. Tap General > Software Update.

3. Delete the update file.

4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

if your Apple Watch says you need more available storage to install a watchOS update
