Cannot remove shared home from Home app

I shared my home within the Apple Home app. Then one by one, devices stopped working during this Home architecture "transition." So I gave up and created a new home in the app, adding all the devices one by one. But in order to do that, I first had to remove them from the old home in the app. So I did and then deleted the old home.

The problem is that I had shared the old home with my son. The home is now gone from my Home app; but it's still visible in his. And it's greyed out so that he can't delete it.

Can anyone offer any advice as to how to delete this recalcitrant home?

Thanks,

sf

Thanks for reaching out Cidrolin,

It sounds like you've updated the Home Architecture but your shared users are not able to access or modify your Home. We can help.

A great place to start is with these requirements to Upgrade to the new Home architecture and control it afterwards:

- Update your iPhoneiPadMacApple TVHomePod, and Apple Watch to the latest software. Any device that is connected to an upgraded home and not running the latest software will lose access to the home until the device is updated. This includes people that you invite to control your home.

- A home hub, such as an Apple TV or HomePod, is required to share control of your home and to receive Home notifications on the new Home architecture. iPad is not supported as a home hub on the new Home architecture.

Once your son's devices are updated, you can share the new Home with him.

Hope that helps.

Take care.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Unfortunately, that doesn't resolve our problem. My son cannot delete the old home within the Home app on his iPhone because it is greyed out. As I was having trouble with the new Home architecture I had removed all devices from it and deleted it as the owner, thinking that would automatically delete it from those with whom I had shared it. Nope. What's worse, although he is running IOS 16.2, when I send him a new invite from a new home I created in the Home app, he doesn't see it in the Home app, which is perfectly stuck on the old home.

Our hub is an AppleTV 4K and I am running IOS 16.3 on an iPhone 14Pro. I'm not sure which iPhone model he has, probably a 12 or 13.

Thanks,

AHA! I think I found the problem. My son has another home in the Home app, which he did not update to the new architecture. He is getting a message that he cannot open my shared home in the app until all his homes are upgraded. But he cannot do that now until Apple resumes upgrades to the new Home architecture. So I told him he could either 1) wait for Apple to do that, or 2) delete his home, then my shared home, then reinstall his home and eventually after the upgrade, my shared home. I suspect he'll do the former.
