Cannot play individual song from search

I have been coming across a bug with Apple Music on iOS. When I search for a particular song, in this case, “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, the song appears in the now playing bar but never actually plays. Similarly, if I ask Siri “Play Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton”, she responds with “Looks like Apple Music can’t play that”.


However, if I navigate to the album, “Traveller”, and select “Tennessee Whiskey” from there, the song plays fine.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. If you haven't already, close the Music app and then restart your iPhone. Restarting refreshes the system and could resolve the issue you're experiencing. To close the app, follow the steps below or in the article here: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch.

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close. 
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app. 

To restart, follow the steps below or in this article: Restart your iPhone.

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

If you continue to experience issues, make sure the iPhone is up-to-date with iOS 16. For steps on how to do so, click here: Update your iPhone or iPad.


If none of the information above help, delete the Music app and then re-add it. During this process may delete your downloaded songs, and would need to be downloaded again. To delete the Music app and restore it, follow the steps here: Delete built-in Apple apps from the Home Screen on your iOS 14 or later or iPadOS device or Apple Watch.

Thank you for your response. Your solution temporarily fixed the issue, however this week it has returned.


So far I have tried the following for troubleshooting:


-Delete all locally stored music from my iPhone

-Sign out of my Apple Music account

-Delete Music app from my iPhone

-Reboot my iPhone

-Install Apple Music and log into my account.


The issue occurs particularly with the song above, as well as a few other common ones.
