G'day Richard1947421,
It sounds like you have a question about whether a new iPhone would be unlocked. Is that right? The lock status of your current iPhone would be independent of whether a new iPhone is locked, and it would vary depending on where you purchased it. Generally, if you buy an iPhone through a carrier, it's locked to their network.
However, if you're buying directly from Apple in the United States, you can purchase an unlocked iPhone: iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus - Apple
If you're buying from your carrier, you'll need to get in touch with them for details on their locking policy.
We hope that answers your question. Take care.
