I don't see buttons or checkboxes mentioned such as "Vertical Text" or "Text Direction" to undo my entire doc being in vertical text. I've tried selecting text too, right-clicked, etc. I need horizontal text back!

As mentioned earlier, I think you have to add Japanese to your preferred languages list (and maybe also to your list of input sources) to get that option. Try doing that.

Could you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
To see vertical text options you need to have a Japanese keyboard active I think or Japanese on your preferred language list.

Below is a screen shot from Pages. It's 1 page of 25 total. All pages look this way. It started with one page in Textedit being stuck vertical which I couldn't undo so tried Pages. Originally there were no text boxes, so I believe that's still the case (no formatted text boxes). I've already tried somethings at your link. Thanks for the reply.

I notice that your screen shot of the same menu is missing the Vertical Text control circled in mine.
I wonder if this is due to the different printers attached to your iMac and to my MBpro.
Try switching the Printer menu item to "Any Printer."

When you click on the Document icon at the top right corner, is the vertical text box checked? Can you post a screen shot of the settings for Document > Document?
That solved it! Setting the language temporarily to Japanese made the "Vertical Text" box visible. I was able to uncheck it, then set the language back to English. Thanks Tom.
