So I got a iPad off a old friend but I’m no longer in contact with this person and the iPad has an activation lock on it for there email , I have been signed in with my Apple ID but I tried to factor rest the iPad

How do I get into the iPad when no longer in contact

You don't. Only the AppleID and passcode used to initiate

the Activation Lock can remove it. There is no workaround

for the security features of Activation Lock.

When/if you regain contact with your old friend, give him this link

so he may release the iPad for you to set up as a new iPad

using your AppleID and passcode:
