Safari no longer allows password save option; Never for this Website

With the latest version of Safari when signing in to banking websites Safari always asks “Save this password” - which I never do for banking passwords. Safari now offers no choice for “Never for this website”, so I must click “Not Now” every time and continue to get asked every time I visit these sites.

How do I get Safari to stop asking to save passwords for certain sites and/or present the “Never for this website” option?

Using macOS 13.2.1, Safari 16.3

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.2

Hello agd21,

Change AutoFill settings in Safari on Mac - Apple Support -- With Safari open, choose Settings > AutoFill. Select Edit to the right of "User names and passwords". Locate the site in the list. Choose Edit, then select Delete Password. You should now see the option for “Never for this website”.

If you don’t, we recommend contacting Apple Support to look into this further with you: Get Support

All the best.

Hello agd21,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. Since you're not seeing the option of, "Never for this website" in Safari for passwords, we suggest to see if that specific website has "never saved" listed. If it does, you can remove that website and see if the option to select "Never for this website" appears. Here are the steps on how to do that:

* Check whether you chose to never save the password for the website: Choose Safari > Settings, click Passwords, then unlock your passwords. If a website’s password shows “never saved,” click the Remove button  to remove it from this list. Then click the Add button  to add the website, your user name, and your password to the list.

This information is outlined in this helpful article: Autofill your user name and password in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

Kind regards.

In Safari > Settings > AutoFill > "User names and passwords" > Edit (opens Passwords list) > Locate the site in the list; I could find no Delete Password option, just the minus sign at the bottom to remove the site form the list entirely.

I may have somehow solved it by deleting all history in Safari, because now when I visit the banking sites and after I enter my card # and click the “Remember my Card” check box I don’t get the “Save this password” dialog. If the dialog returns I’ll contact Apple Support.

Thank you.

Thanks bryanr14.

I tried what you suggested in Safari > Passwords > Remove and Add the site, but to add a site to Passwords the dialog box requires that a password be added (see screenshot attached), and as I said, for banking sites I never have passwords saved in Safari.

Is there some other way of having Safari present the option in Save Passwords; "Never for this website" when signing in to a site?
