Numbers on iPad getting stuck, freezing or lagging

Why Numbers on my iPad Air 5 freezes when I’m editing spreadsheets? When I zoom into a particular cell and edit text, it freezes. It won’t allow me to switch to other cells to edit. I couldn’t choose partial texts within the cell when it got stuck and had to reopen the file to fix it.

I also use it in Split View while copying some texts from it to note-taking apps and it does that. Sometimes can’t zoom out anymore after zooming it in or vice versa.

I also use the Grammarly keyboard. Could these apps have to do something about this?

How to work smoothly on it? Any specific settings to set?

Hey Sleepyhead12,

That's a great question! It's definitely possible that a third-party app could cause this issue. Have you tested the Numbers app with the Grammarly keyboard disabled? If not, give it a try or even try removing the keyboard completely, restart your iPad and see if it makes a difference:

Restart your iPad

How to restart an iPad without a Home butto
1. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the top button until you see the Apple logo.

Also, try quitting the Numbers app and then reopen it before you try again: Quit and reopen an app on iPad

Cheers!

Hi, BrianK90!

Thanks so much for your reply!

I have tried what you said. I removed the grammarly keyboard completely and restarted my iPad. When I opened Numbers, it still does the same…I would like to add, I hope this can be resolved coz I like Numbers more than MS Excel on iPad. The only reason is coz in Numbers iPad, when I try to insert text or copy paste texts from a cell, the conditional formatting would not change. While in MS Excel, double tapping a cell with texts will modify that whole cell’s formatting. Let’s say there’s a single sentence in bold and red, in Numbers, it stays like that, only that sentence will be in that format. While in Excel, if I tap that cell with texts and there’s this single sentence with specific formatting, the whole cell’s contents will be formatted to bold and red!

So, Numbers freezing or getting me stuck in a tapped cell while multi tasking is the only problem I find. It’s kinda frustrating. With my work, I need it open with the other note-taking app opened as well while I’m on the go.
