That mid-2012 MacBook Air should be capable of doing the job.

If you are using Disk Utility to "Restore from an image" to create an installer, I can tell you that's almost always guaranteed to fail. DU doesn't do a great job with that.

No, I can't confirm that battery is correct for your MacBook. I don't know exactly which MacBook you have.

If you believe that's the correct replacement, go ahead and buy it, but check the return policy of the seller to know if you can return it if it's the wrong one.

I believe that MacBook wants to retire, and you should let it. 😉👍🏽

What Mac – model and year – are you using to create the bootable installer?

Unless that Mac is capable of running OS X Lion you may find this insurmountable.

That MacBook Pro 2017 cannot run OS X Lion, so it cannot create a bootable installer for that OS.

It's stupid, I know, but that's the way it is.

If you can locate another Mac, mid-2012 or older, then you should be able to get this done.

As for the battery, your may find a suitable replacement that does have a higher rating than oem. You want to make sure that whatever you buy is a direct replacement for the original, otherwise it likely won’t fit.

I recommend you check stock at macsales.com for a battery replacement.

It does appear to be the correct battery. I'm not familiar with the retailer so of course cannot vouch for their accuracy of description.

I spotted this Apple battery on the website: 10.8V Original A1185 Battery Laptop For Apple Macbook Pro 13 A1181 MA561 MA566 MA566J/A MA566FE/A MA255 Notebooks so maybe this is an option for you.

Otherwise, it's merely a cosmetic/aesthetic difference... black v white. I'd expect it to be identical when it comes to function.

Also, don't forget, that laptop is sixteen (!) years old. Ask yourself if you really want to spend money on an obsolete computer.
