A1016 Wireless Keyboard In MacOS Ventura

Howdy, this is in reference to an older post that I cannot get working using Ventura. I have an older classic Apple Wireless Keyboard (Model A1016) which can be paired using the terminal app (doesn't work with the GUI BT pairing interface because of a passcode error). I have followed all the steps but it does not seem to be working, I was wondering if anyone else is having issues or has any tips!

Here are a few of the error codes I am getting:

Failed to pair "MACADDRESS" with error 0x1f (Unspecified Error)
Failed to pair "MACADDRESS" with error 0x02 (No Connection)
Failed to pair "MACADDRESS" with error 0x04 (Page Timeout)

I also had no success at first, I tried at least 50 times.

However it finally went successful today.

Here's what I did:

I had both bluetooth window and terminal open at the same time.

First I selected the bluetooth window and waited until the keyboard was visible for connecting.

Then i switched to terminal and punched in the command line and typed 0000 and enter and it connected.

Im typing this on my A1016 :)

Hope my explanation is clear, otherwise feel free to ask any questions.

Hi there,

i have the same issue. I tried it at least 20 times, using homebrew and blueutils. I could find out the mac address with blueutils —inquiry in a lucky attempt by trying all sorts of combinations of turning on and of bluetooth on my M1 macbook air and / or power of the keyboard. But i still have no success with pairing the KB using the macadress and the specified Code (no matter what Code i use). Pairing always aborts with "unspecified error". Any recommendations? Im sad apple doesnt seem to support their own devices. Dont wanna throw it away and buy a new one cause some random dude in cupertino decided he_she_it doesnt like the A1016 :(

by pairing with an old computer, then go go to about this Mac . . . ===> bluetooth

Which mac address did you use the laptop or the keyboard. If it the keyboards’s MAC address how did you found it?

I really wish I could tell you what I did to make it work, I just kept following the steps over and over and all of a sudden it worked. It says in the terminal app when pairing is successful. I restarted once and reset PRAM but was still getting glitches until it randomly worked. Wish I could be of more help.

I had an older iMac (2008) that it worked with so I was able to get the MAC address from the settings panel there. I also was able to see it using the Bluetooth Explorer (part of the Xcode added apps) but it was super intermittent since it would only pickup the keyboard randomly when trying to pair.
