Apple TV Login on New Roku TV Error

Despite having the correct Apple ID and password, Apple TV will not allow me to login on my new Roku TV. Just keeps giving an error that says “Verification Failed. There were errors signing you in. Wait a moment, then try again.” There’s no ability to login via mobile with an activation code or anything, because that would be too easy. Only option is to “sign in with remote” but that method doesn’t work. Please assist!

*fixed*

go to settings on your Roku TV > Advanced System Settings > Network Connection Reset.

the TV will restart. Go to network and connect to your network. Then open the Apple TV app, it should prompt you to login using the QR code - once this happens and you complete it your phone with say “your TV will refresh shortly”.. once that works the first time, you will have to do it again, Roku will prompt you to sign into the ITunes Store. Once done, it should work after that.

Some other users have also recently mentioned this error message on this forum.

I haven’t seen a broad general resolution here though.

- Please verify that the Roku TV system software is up-to-date.

- Verify that the Apple TV app is up-to-date, if not done automatically.

- Verify that your router or firewall doesn’t block Apple authentication servers, in case you made custom changes.

- Verify that your devices and router use a good DNS, like the one from your ISP, which gets updated with all the server names that Apple might use. Again, only applies if you made custom changes.

- Verify that your Roku TV has the correct date, time, and time zone, as Apple may be more strict about that than other content providers (for TLS secure connection reasons).

Else I would suggest to contact an expert from the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (chat/email/callback).

For some of you still struggling. Somehow I, a non-techy person, discovered that my Roku had defaulted to using my back-up browser (in my case called 'Xfinity') instead of connecting through our personal home internet network. (Probably due to a Roku update or a noticeable lapse in connectivity.) All my TV sign-ins, registrations etc were originally made using our home network. Apple and one other streamer (cannot recall which) recognised the error/disparity and refused to stream content (or possibly the xfinity back-up provider does not have enough bandwidth?). Once I changed the settings in Roku from 'xfinity' back to our home network everything has been perfect. No technicians, not at roku, not xfinity, not apple, guessed that this might have been the problem or made any suggestion that helped. Of course all one can see is variations on 'no internet connection' when going through the protocols. It seems to me this is likely a pretty common problem, easily solved, but not recognised by 'support' systems.
