Login on iPhone 6 with Apple ID is impossible

Hello Community! I have "reactivated" an old iPhone6 that has been successfully updated to iOS 12.5.7.

To complete the configuration, it prompts me (of course) to log in with my Apple ID.

However, when I try, it tells me that the software needs to be updated. But under "software", it confirms to me that this is the current version for this device!

So should I assume that it is impossible to access the App Store and my data in iCloud etc. with an iPhone 6?

Thank you very much, best regards

Claudio

Hello Claudio, I have also an iPhone 6, iOS 12.5.7, and got the same issue this week.

Fortunately, I have also an iPhone 11 Pro Max which helped me to get AppleID onto iPhone 6.

Basically, have made a full Reset of the iPhone6 (no backup for me, but I advise you do it before the reset).

After reset of the iPhone6 he requested if want to setup the AppleID from a phone nearby (the 11 Pro Max).

By doing so, I was able to reuse the iPhone 6 with my Apple ID.

Of course, made a Restore from backups on the iCloud and all is fine now.

All the best and good luck to you,

D.

OK, today I went to the Genius Bar of Apple in Zurich and they tried everything, including a complete reset of my software on the iPhone 6 with reinstallation of the software from their notebook. They concluded that nothing can be done, they say this device is no longer supported. I pointed out that I have an iPhone 6s, which is just a little bit newer, so the latest update is iOS 15.7.5, asking why the iPhone 6 is so far behind. They did not give me a satisfactory answer.

I will just give up

best regards

What is the exact message you are seeing? That often tells us exactly what you need to do and it helps to include it whenever you start a topic here.

Did you try restarting the iPhone?

Even though 12.5.7 is old, it should still be able to connect to iCloud etc. I can with an iPad with iOS 9.

Refer to this document for ways to contact Apple --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support

Select your country (also look for "other" regions), then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Dear Claudio, have been further on the issue, with support from Apple this time (used the 'Apple Support' app which I have in the iPhone 11 Pro Max and they quickly called me back from Ireland and being able through the 11 Pro phone to share the screen and show her my iPhone6 and my PC/iTunes screens, etc).

The bottom of it is that we've found the issue stayed with the 'Advanced Data Protection' feature on the iPhone 11 Pro.... Baically, 2 days ago I have been on Manage your Apple ID and made changes on 'Account Recovery'..

Had to reverse that changes but can be done only from iPhone (AppleID/iCloud/AdvancedDataProtection and set it OFF, including the AccountRecovery in the same screen, too).

Hope this will help better for you, too.

Kind regards,

Dragos

Thanks for the answer, Limnos.

I have my operating system in italian, I just post here in english because I receive answers here easier and faster (possibly because of bigger audience).

The message says (translated):

"It is necessary a software update.

In order to get access update this iPhone to the most recent version of iOS." (that I already did).

>> Did you try restarting the iPhone?

Yes, more than one time. Shutting it completely off, or simply soft reset. No changes in behaviour or error message.

Dear Dragos, thanks a lot for this additional information. Unfortunately my "most recent" :-) iPhone is an iPhone 6s, at least for the moment, and I certainly did not make any change (nor can I find under iCloud the option "Advanced Data Protection"). I have a relatively recent iMac but you write, that this can be done only on the iPhone. But that's fine, I'll live with this until (maybe) I decide to buy a modern iPhone. Nevertheless, that is a remains a bug, IMHO, and Apple should correct it.

Best regards

Claudio
