Using QR codes with your iPad is straightforward. First, enable the feature in iPad settings:
Settings > Camara > Scan QR Codes - set to ON
Having enabled the feature, open the Camera App on your iPad - and place a QR Code within view of the camera. If the QR Code is recognised/valid, the code will be highlighted on-screen; simply tap the highlighted code.
