To remove a contact from the Messages app without deleting their contact information, you can follow these steps:
By removing or archiving the conversation thread, it will no longer appear in your active conversations or recent contacts list in the Messages app. However, you'll still be able to find and access the contact's information in your device's Contacts app whenever needed.
Any way to do it without removing the text conversation entirely?
You can accomplish that by removing the entire message thread with this contact from the Messages app. NOTE: All of the messages exchanged with this contact will be deleted from the Messages app, however, their contact information will remain in the Contacts app.
Open Messages app ➡️ Touch and Slide the Message Thread to the Left ➡️ Tap on Delete Button revealed to the right.

5. If you want to keep the contact but hide it from your recent contacts list, you can also archive the conversation instead of deleting it. Look for an "Archive" option or similar in the swipe-left options. This will move the conversation to an archived section or folder, keeping it hidden from your main messages list.
This is not a feature of Messages on an iPhone. Before posting something you've generated from ChatGPT, you need to double check it. ChatGPT makes things up, especially when you're using the free version that has no knowledge past September 2021.
There isn't a way to hide conversations in Messages without deleting the entire conversation.
