If the option to enable iMessage is grayed out on your device, there could be two possibilities

  1. Make sure you are signed in with your Apple ID. Go to Settings > [your name] > Sign in to your device using your Apple ID. If you're already signed in, sign out and then sign back in again.
  2. Verify that your region and language settings are correct. iMessage may be disabled if your device is set to an unsupported region.
