Siri Asks for Confirmation of Home/Homekit Operations

Since about 2 days ago, when I ask Siri to “Turn on X light”, it asks me for a confirmation - “Do you mean the X light in Y home?”

This never happened before and there has been no iOS update.

I have 2 ‘homes’ configured. I have turned off the location services and also Home Switching, however there has been no change.

Is anyone experiencing this now? How do I turn this confirmation off?

Hello Lennys26,

In situations like this, the first thing we always recommend is to power cycle all the devices involved. While simple, this can refresh the operating systems, apps and connections.

If the issue continues, we would suggest reaching out to Apple Support here: Get Support

They will be in the best position to assist further.

Cheers.

This is happening to me, but only on my watch. My iphone is fine. I think it’s triggered by leaving my home, and the watch is getting stuck not knowing I’m back home. I can fix it temporary by restarting the watch.

Oddly, my wife’s watch doesn’t seem to be affected by this.

There’s a few related reports elsewhere.

This issue happens on both iPhones and the iPad in the house, however not on the Homepod or the AppleTV.

  • I have reset the iPhones, Homepod and AppleTV == No improvement.

  • I have cycled (off/on) the "Location" permissions and settings == No improvement.

Although there has not been any iOS updates, clearly something changed.

I have had it go away and then come back for no reason that I could figure out. Right now, on iOS 17.0.2 and Watch 10.0.1, using Siri to turn on or off Philip Hue lights or iDevice power plugs, my watch responds "Did you mean XYZ Light in your home?". If I reset the watch, it works fine. If I then leave my home (but not to my office where my "other home" is my office at work with two HomePods) it won't work correctly until I reset the watch. The phone never has the problem.

I have the same problem. It got worse and happens almost every time with the latest iOS/WatchOS updates (17.0.3 on iPhone 15, 10.0.1 on Series 8). I have three Homekit houses setup and If i ask Siri to “turn on the lava lamp” it replies “which home: x, y or z” when there is only a lava lamp in the one home. I then reply “x” the home that it is in and it says “can’t find the accessory in home x” or words to that effect. Sometimes it will locate the accessory but it pretty much always asks for the home or lately it says (if the accessory is unique) “you want me to turn the deck light on in home x?” when there is no alternative.

I’m hypothesizing that with the new watch doing Siri on-device they’ve made changes to the older watches Siri backend. Whatever the reason it is practically useless. It’s easier to get the phone out of my pocket and use that, which works with near 100% success.

My wife’s 12pro does this. I don’t have the issue with my watch or phone. Both of us are running the same iOS and watch os.

we only have one “home” set up.

and it’s just a single bulb.

“siri turn off the lamp”

it’s the only device in home, it’s labeled lamp.

her phone always asks did you mean lamp in x home?

mine just does it
