Connecting my old setup up (Monitor and Dock/Audio interface) to a new Mac Studio

Hello,

i want to buy a new Mac Studio and i was wondering how i can connect my two Dell 2415 monitors with their Display Port connection. Can you please recommend a proper Display Port to USB-C cables.

The next question is about my OWC Thunderbolt dock. On this Dock i have connected my RME Fireface 400 audio interface. This OWC dock has a Thunderbolt 2 connection to my old Mac Pro 2013. I would also like to connect this dock to the Mac Studio.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Hotte

You can connect Thunderbolt 1/2 devices to Macs with Thunderbolt 3/4 ports with the aid of this adapter:

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

Note that this adapter converts Thunderbolt protocol, only. It will not:

  • Carry power from one side to another (e.g,., from a dock to a laptop)
  • Work with Mini DisplayPort displays and adapters plugged directly into the Thunderbolt 2 side (because the adapter doesn't do the extra work required to strip off Thunderbolt encapsulation of the DisplayPort signal)
  • Work with USB-C (USB) or USB-C (DisplayPort) accessories plugged into the Thunderbolt 3 side (because supporting them is another ball of wax than merely translating a Thunderbolt signal)

But for what you're doing, I think it would work well. Your Studio doesn't need whatever power the dock might normally be willing to offer, and it is a dock that expects to speak with a Mac using Thunderbolt protocol.
