Factory reset of my Mac

Hello —

I'm trying to do a factory reset of my very old MacBook Pro. It's mid-2014 running Big Sur, 11.7.7. I've made a couple of different attempts based on what I've found on the internet, and nothing happens — it just reboots as it normally would. Help?

Thank you.

See the following Apple Support article for information on resetting a Mac. Skip step 2 as it only applies to newer Macs and use the other steps instead. What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your Mac - Apple Support
