Turn off speech incoming text message

I have a MacBook Pro, OS 13.4.1, and all of a sudden when I get an incoming text message the voice repeats the text. I have tried to turn voice, (speech), off. But it still continues - how do I turn off?

Then is that only an iOS option and not for macOS. Let me think

Can you try this and after that restart your Mac to see if the issue is persisting?

  1. In the Messages app  on your Mac, select a conversation or select text to be read.
  2. Choose Edit > Speech > Start Speaking.
  3. To make the speaking stop, choose Edit > Speech > Stop Speaking.

When I logon to my MacBook Air (Ventura 13.4.1) I get a voice over message. I do not want any voice over messages on my computer but I cannot turn this one off. Also, my preferred language for writing is US International-PC but my computer keeps defaulting to Italian without any input from me.
