Photo is blurry when imported to iMovie
When I import a photo to iMovie it appears blurry. It is fine when I look at it in photos but is blurry in iMovie. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Make sure that you are importing the downloaded Photo and not a thumbnail. If you are using optimized storage in Photos then photos that have not been opened recently are stored in the cloud, with just a reference thumbnail in the Photos app. You can download it in Photos by opening it.
Also, you can try dragging the photo from the Photos app to your desktop, and from there dragging it into iMovie.

3 months ago, the new Final Cut Pro 10.6.6 had a bug causing photos and videos imported from the Photos app to appear either blurred, small or with a red offline symbol. We are now on FCP 10.6.8 and the bug is still there!
Apparently iMovie, which is based on FCP, has a similar bug.
All evolving software gets occasional bugs, particularly where there are upgrades to several apps that interact together, like iMovie, iTunes, and Photos. In addition, the operating system is constantly evolving. When bugs happen, they usually are temporary and will get corrected. Until they get corrected, there usually are simple workarounds, like in the situation posted in this thread.

Thank you Rich, it worked when I put the photo on the desktop and then put it in iMovie. I appreciate your help.
Anne
Great. Glad you got it working.

Good info. I have seen other cases of bugs overlapping between FCPX and iMovie.

Helpful, but is this why we paid premium price for an Apple product?
